Value The Trip: Lunch at Contramar - Condé Nast Traveler
I had wanted to go to Contramar , a seafood restaurant in Mexico Town, for so long that I decided to save it for the final blowout meal of my three-week-long trip. So habitually, these over-Instagrammed spots don't live up to our expectations, but Contramar was even better filter-free. The setting—all white tablecloths and striated awnings—feels like a magical oasis in the middle of the busy Colonia Roma neighborhood, and was made all the improve by the friendly, reassuringly old-school service. To start, we ordered three rounds of the signature tuna tostadas, which come topped with a schmear of chipotle mayonnaise, before doubling down on the aguachile de campechano. Over the line of my trip through the country I had become obsessed with aguachiles, sampling different versions up and down the west shore. Like a ceviche, an aguachile is a mixture of raw seafood, but the ingredients are marinated for even less time, making it even more original and sashimi-like. Contramar’s version was a beautifully balanced medley of shrimp, octopus, and fish, opposing with cucumbers and red onions in a spicy, lime-y broth. But the standout dish for me was the whole grilled pargo fish (a standard of snapper). Half the fish was roasted in a rich red chile paste, the other half in fresh green parsley. I grew up in Japan and in the south of Spain (the in all respects’s two fish capitals. ), and this was honestly one of the top three fish dishes I have ever eaten. I’ll be dreaming about this go overboard every night until my next trip to D. F. —which will be as soon as humanly possible ( contramar. +52 55 5514 3169).www.cntraveler.com

I pick my foods first, then I dress my table in colors that band it," she said. "We made all the nourishment here, put it on a shopping cart and hauled it over to the clubhouse," which is adjacent to her condo-style apartment, she said. For the shower they made appetizers and desserts to devour about 45 guests. "We planned the menu and then I colorized," Hocken said. "I had aqua blue tablecloths that were the same color employed by Tiffany & Co. in New York City. I also scattered giant pearls and diamonds on the tables and wrapped huge boxes in aqua article and put huge bows on them for the centerpiece of every table. The boxes looked like the boxes from Tiffany's, and each tableland had 25 pearl and aqua balloons over it. "We served 12 different appetizers and six different desserts we made from line up to standard," she said. Although Hocken regularly cooks for small to large events herself, she said she enjoys cooking with Tiffany because they both admiration making unique dishes and they both love to bake.
