"Evening in Provence" Benefits SafeNet - ErieTVNews

SafeNet's backyard was transformed into the fantastic French countryside Friday evening, for a garden party to remember. "A night in Provence" offered the finest French cuisine and divertissement, all in support of SafeNet's services for children. A silent auction also raised money for the organization. Since SafeNet doesn't make grant money specifically to bolster their services for children, the garden party is one way that the community helps SafeNet go on with their important work. "If we're going to stop domestic violence we have to educate the children," said SafeNet's Superintendent Director Linda King, "because not only is there a cycle of abuse within a relationship but there's a generational cycle, so our programs are aimed at stopping the generational pattern of abuse. SafeNet hopes to raise $100,000 with the garden party. Open-air rooms with not-so-secret gardens - Macon Telegraph

Christopher D. Ritzert’s mercifulness-acre garden behind his 1930s stone Colonial in Washington started out as an unremarkable backyard with a jumble of weeds and neighboring homes in voluptuous view. To fix that, Ritzert worked with a landscape artist to design a series of outdoor rooms that ascend the hill behind the dynasty. Now after a multi-year makeover, you sense an extraordinary setting even before you get out of the car. Water tinkles from three fountains as the car ascends the exposed aggregate driveway, and when your steps munch the pea gravel you think you’re in Provence. The flagstone terrace behind the house, outside the kitchen door, is defined by a gently curving low stonewall creating a unsure dining room. Up a couple of stone steps is a more intimate dining room with pea gravel and the continuous calming murmur of fountain water. The verdant landscape is lush with shrubs and trees of all sizes in a hundred shades of leafy, flowers, grasses, fine furniture and whimsical sculptures. “This is what I call my terrasse a la Provencale,” said Ritzert, who is a degradation president of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty. “The feeling and scale are very different from the flagstone terrace. It’s a egregious place for bird watching during the day and stargazing late at night. Fresh air and nature are a retreat from the city. We crave and are spiritually refreshed by it. Thoughtfully crafty your outdoor landscaping -- a garden hideout in the back yard, a cozy deck or a rooftop oasis -- can add to your value of life and the value of your home. The way to do this “is to create outdoor rooms,” said Brendan Doyle, founder of PLANTERRA, a vista planning and design firm, describing the work he did for Ritzert. “Think about the perimeter of your property as enclosing your inviolate living space or floor plan, then subdivide it into outdoor living spaces or rooms. Still, it is not necessary to have a liberal space to create pleasant outdoor rooms. “There are only four feet from the edge of our patio to the property wrinkle,” said Doyle of the Washington home he shares with artist Larry Kirkland. “So I appropriated the view beyond my lot as an alternative of screening it out. He designed his backyard breakfast room by grouping furniture in the spot that is the same distance away from the house as the clan is tall. “I use the golden triangle in my designs,” Doyle said. “The most comfortable place to sit.

Motel review: La Bastide de Marie, Provence, France - AOL Travel UK

La Bastide de Marie is a soprano-end yet super-friendly and relaxed hotel located near one of France 's most charming villages, Ménerbes. Practised for a weekend break , this 18th century residence offers the best of rustic Provence with a luxury twist. First impressions. One parley: Idyllic. The driveway is lined with cypress trees, olive trees and lavender bushes, and the bastide is set in the heart of the Domaine de Marie's 57 acres of vineyards. The beautiful stone country farmhouse is authentically restored in the mode of a traditional Provencal 'mas', and it's completely charming. See also: Europe's best places for a family holiday in 2015. What's to liking. If you're a foodie who also happens to be a fan of 'antique chic', this is the hotel for you. Each room is exquisitely individually decorated with unique pieces sourced at restricted second-hand markets, often from renowned antique hotspots like l'Isle sur la Sorgue. These splendidly weathered pieces are set off by Baroque items, creating a perfect balance between grand, contemporary and rustic. The restaurant is a highlight here, with visitors coming to the breakfast just for its relaxed yet fine dining. The food is described as 'salt of the earth' cooking, and it's sublime. Seasonal, unusual, simple yet imaginative: you'll get a real taste of Provence with specialties like creme brûlée flavoured with lavender from the garden. Nicest rooms in the house. The Marie Suites are the 'top-end' rooms, and offer 50 square metres of space, innumerable with exposed stone walls and fireplaces. Bit of a Bohemian at heart. Why not try a night in the Roulotte , a caravan - or, rather, 'country boudoir' - located in the garden by the pool. For extreme privacy and luxury, there's also a villa that is available to rent on the fortune. Villa Grenache has five bedrooms, all decorated with the same attention to detail - pastels, antiques, wrought-iron fixtures - and can accommodate up to 10 people. This place is perfect if you. Are looking for a bit of treat-yourself-territory. This bucolic bastide offers a slice of Provencal land of Goshen - but it does come with a reasonably large pricetag. Don't miss. A trip to the Spa at La Bastide de Marie for a spot of pampering with the hotel's.
