Even on the warmest summer days, it’s callous not to want to relax on the patio. The surroundings are serene, with the garden, a pond burbling in the background and comfortable furnishings that invite one to sit and have the view of scenic woods that hug this rural Iowa home. “We really use this space, and we entertain and dine outdoors in the summer,” says the homeowner. “I beloved the pond and the fountain, and it’s just soothing to sit out here. But weather and age had taken its toll. The homeowners enlisted help in rejuvenating the patio from their eat one's heart out-time friend and interior designer Linda Austin of Austin’s Interiors and Design in Waverly. They’d worked together successfully on numerous important and minor projects through the years. It was particularly fitting because Austin had designed the original irregular-shaped, multi-tear down patio. “It was sound, but needed some structural work and repair without changing the footprint,” Austin explains. New 24- by 24-inch Italian porcelain tiles were laid underfoot, including bull-nose tiles at distinction changes to keep water out. The old pergola came down and a new wood structure rose in its place. The hot tub environment has been retiled, and classically elegant Brown Jordan furnishings arranged in cozy groupings. Now it’s once again the go-to hangout for summer cookouts and gatherings. Just steps away from the patio is the pantry, which got its facelift about six years ago. New oak cabinetry is finished soft white, an effective contrast to the black granite countertops and backsplash. A choose large piece of granite tops the island. Corbels, crown molding and other details give the cabinetry a fixtures-like heft. The living and dining room awash in daylight that cascades through sparkling window panes. No draperies, shutters or sheers check views of this scenic setting. That wasn’t away true, the homeowner says, because although the home is spacious, a front porch and commonplace windows blocked both light and scenery. Austin offered a range of options, and once the homeowners settled on what get the better of suited their needs, the interior designer guided them through a remodeling project that saw the removal of the front porch from the buddy house, adding square footage. Old windows came out and larger divided light windows were installed. Fa bricks were saved from demolition and reused. Pale painted and stained crown and rope moldings add priority to.

Preferred Kurt Timmermeister's Seattle Dairy Farm and Home - Modern Farmer

On the laundry list of Plan B fantasies, opening a restaurant, writing a book, and becoming a farmer typically rank tipsy. At the age of 24, Kurt Timmermeister had already checked off the chef box, and he’s since published two memoirs, but the dairyman had absolutely no agricultural ambitions when he purchased four acres on Washington Status’s rural Vashon Island in 1991. “I’m pretty sure I’d never even seen a cow close-up,” Timmermeister admits. At the every so often, he just wanted an affordable piece of land near his Café Septieme in Seattle, a short ferry ride away. The skeleton he bought was overrun with blackberry bushes and old cars. a crumbling 1880 log cabin threatened collapse. a chicken coop served as the critical house. “I thought it was romantic,” Timmermeister says. “My friends were dismayed. His early and tentative forays into cultivation read like a series of comical city-boy-goes-to-the-country episodes, including failed attempts to chop wood, clueless visits to the John Deere dealership, and several disasters in beekeeping. “Today, people have YouTube to inform about them such things. back then, I was going by books and a lot of trial and error,” says Timmermeister, who eventually chronicled his adventures in 2012’s Growing a Agronomist. While living in the cold, moldy chicken quarters, he cleared the fields and restored the 1880 log cabin. “It took a decade because I kept uninterrupted out of money, but now it’s amazingly beautiful. with expansionist tendencies (Timmermeister acquired eight adjacent acres along the way), he sold his Seattle restaurant, providing a five-year economic cushion for his attempt at a full-time career in agriculture. Timmermeister started by growing vegetables—“a mishap, he says. “It hits you at the farmers market: I spent this much time on these carrots, and someone’s going to pay $3 for them. I can’t buy lunch for that. ” The profit from his cardinal season: $7,500. To stay afloat, the entrepreneur launched a series of Sunday-night dinners in the cookhouse he built on the estate, charging guests a premium for food harvested a few yards away (this supper club served as the topic for his 2014 tome, Growing a Observance ). Then Timmermeister met Dinah, a 3-year-old Jersey cow, and his world turned upside down: “I remember when I went to pick her up, it was a clear-cut sea change. Cow meant farmer. ” He came to appreciate the ritual and responsibility of dairy farming, spending nearly two hours a day.

Fashionableness to design interior for Casa Arianna at Talis Park - Naples Daily News

The latest Interiors announced it has been selected to design and execute the interior for a Casa Arianna residence being built by Harbourside Form toll Homes in the Fairgrove neighborhood at Talis Park. Fairgrove offers golf course, water and guard views. The neighborhood presents 24 south facing homes. Italian Renaissance designs are joined by a Spanish Eclectic chic. Homes in Fairgrove range from 3,100 to 4,000 square feet. Vogue's interior designer Leslie Gebert, Allied Colleague, ASID is creating the interior for the 3,935-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-bath Casa Arianna. The significant room floor plan includes a fireplace, wet bar, his-and-her studies, a formal dining room, a gourmet island kitchen, a two-car garage, and a one-car garage. A summer caboose and fireplace are featured in the outdoor living area. Gebert's design concept for the Casa Arianna will combine propriety and grace with easy comfort for a practical and refined lifestyle. Set against a foundation of ivory stone flooring, her design calls for soft Champagne metallics with sophisticated layers of eggplant and purples blended with ivory tones for distinguishing contrasts. The Arianna's open flow will be immediately evident upon entering the home's foyer. Square painted columns will set down an airy dining room on the left as a grand hallway sweeps past to the great room and kitchen beyond. Three rectangular coffered ceiling details, each adorned with metallic brightness eggplant grasscloth, will mark the progression through this space. Below, decorative tile detailing in a blend of the ivory stone will delineate corresponding rectangles in the floor for harmonious balance. Chandeliers with the look of crystal and amethyst sunbursts will be suspended from each coffer. Suspended from the faux finished hypocritical coffer in the dining room, a large rectangular crystal chandelier will illuminate a long glass-top table. The chairs will be upholstered in a tone colour-on-tone white zebra pattern to contrast with a dark espresso finish on the wooden legs. A stylish mirrored detailing will be applied to the back collapse and include a pair of sconces. An opening from the dining room will lead into a well-appointed wet bar that also serves the great room. The bar's back try will be faux finished in a Champagne color with upper and lower cabinetry in a soft taupe. The upper cabinets will put into the limelight lighted glass fronts. The backsplash, in laser cut tiles of taupe and white, will present the look.
